Meet Dr. Katie Rein

I grew up on a ranch west of Melville, MT, which has been in my family since 1893. After leaving home, I continued my education with college at Montana State University, veterinary school at Washington State University, and an internship in Large Animal Medicine at Texas A&M University. After that, I worked at Harlowton Veterinary Clinic for two years before starting Crazy Mountain Veterinary Service. It has been a joy for me to see Crazy Mountain Veterinary Service grow from me doing all the jobs to having a team of capable co-workers at various locations working together.

Why did you choose to become a veterinarian?

I chose this profession because I am deeply passionate about ranching and agriculture, and I wanted to do something that brought back to that community. Veterinary medicine seemed like a good fit for me.

Dr. Katie Rein

What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of my job is the team we've created and how we work together to achieve a common goal and help ranchers and animal owners care for their pets and livestock.

What are some of your personal hobbies and interests?

Some of my hobbies and interests include knitting, helping my husband on the ranch, reading, and hanging out with friends and family. I'm blessed to live in the community where I grew up, and so I have a lot of friends and family around here. I'm also involved in the Montana Vet Med Association with a group called Power of Ten; and a governor appointed member of the Board of Veterinary Medicine.

Can you share some exciting projects you've been involved in at Crazy Mountain Veterinary Service?

One of the most exciting things we've done the past several years at Crazy Mountain Vet is apply for grants through the USDA, and we were fortunate enough to receive two. The first one gave us a life-size fiberglass cow that we've named Stella, and we take her on the road to do calving workshops and some AI classes. More recently, we have received a grant from the USDA Western Sare where we are doing research into antibiotic usage on Montana ranches. These are some exciting opportunities that we're able to bring to our community.

How can people get in touch with Crazy Mountain Veterinary Service if they have questions?

If you have questions regarding any of our team members or services at Crazy Mountain Vet, please don't hesitate to give us a call. We're always here for you.
